Prof. Miklas Scholz is a leading academic in water resources engineering, holding professorial roles at University of Salford (UK), Lund University (Sweden), and University of Johannesburg (South Africa). He leads the Civil Engineering Research Group at Salford and chairs the Civil Engineering program. His research focuses on sustainable water management systems including constructed wetlands, flood retention basins, and permeable pavements. Scholz has secured significant grants: €7M from EU H2020 (WATERAGRI project, 2019) and €1.52M from JPI Water (RAINSOLUTIONS, 2018). He has published 250+ journal articles (h-index 45) and four books.
Education: DSc (Civil Engineering, University of Salford, 2017), PhD (Civil Engineering, University of Birmingham, 1997), MSc (Water Resources Engineering, City, University of London, 1995).
Research Highlights: Developed the Sustainable Flood Retention Basin (SFRB) concept for multifunctional water bodies. Authored universal design guidelines for integrated constructed wetlands (ICW). His work bridges engineering solutions with ecological sustainability, emphasizing nutrient recycling and low-cost wastewater treatment technologies.
Grants & Awards: Fellowships from IWA and IETI; EU and national grants totaling over €8.5M. His funded projects address agricultural water efficiency, flood management, and non-conventional water resources.
Professional Engagement: Editor of Exploratory Environmental Science Research and Journal of Environmental and Life Sciences. Active in global academic networks including China, South Africa, and Europe.
