Mikel Norris is a Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of Political Science in the College of Education and Social Sciences at Coastal Carolina University. He joined the faculty in 2012 after working at One Group Mutual Funds and JP Morgan Asset Management. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville.

Dr. Norris's research focuses on judicial politics, with particular emphasis on judicial selection, gender and courts, court leadership, income inequality, and external political efficacy. His work explores how gender influences leadership on state supreme courts, the vulnerability of judges in elections, and the relationship between economic inequality and citizens' sense of political efficacy.
Analysis of his recent publications (2012-2024) reveals a consistent focus on judicial behavior and gender dynamics in state courts, as well as the impact of socioeconomic factors on political attitudes. His articles frequently appear in top political science and interdisciplinary journals such as Canadian Journal of Political Science and Social Science Quarterly.
Dr. Norris is actively involved in student mentoring, serving as Pre-Law advisor, Faculty Advisor for the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, and Moot Court coordinator. He encourages students to engage in research and provides guidance on their academic and professional development.
