Associate Professor Mike Weston is a conservation biologist at Deakin University, affiliated with the School of Life and Environmental Sciences and the Centre for Marine Science. His research focuses on biodiversity conservation, particularly in shorebirds, sandy shore ecosystems, and human-wildlife coexistence. He has published extensively on topics such as vehicle impacts on coastal birds, invasive species management, and wildlife responses to anthropogenic pressures.
Weston holds an Associate Professorship and has received funding from organizations like the Hermon Slade Foundation and BirdLife Australia. His work bridges ecological research and applied conservation, addressing challenges ranging from habitat protection to policy reforms for endangered species.
His recent studies include analyzing flight initiation distances in birds, evaluating the efficacy of wildlife deterrents, and investigating the effects of human activities (e.g., tourism, urbanization) on ecosystems. He collaborates with institutions such as Parks Victoria and Avisure on projects involving wildlife-aircraft collision mitigation and coastal conservation.
