Mike Daines is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art + Design at Utah State University (USU), part of the Caine College of the Arts. He was recognized as one of the top 30 design educators globally by TDK (The Design Kids) in 2023. Daines’ career bridges academia and industry, having founded his own design agency in Los Angeles and currently serving as Creative Director of the Afton Klein Group (AKG). He earned a B.A. in Design from USU in 2000 and an M.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art. His teaching philosophy combines industry-focused fundamentals with art-based creativity, emphasizing critical thinking and contradiction in design solutions. Daines’ work with high-profile clients like MTV, Columbia Pictures, and Adidas enhances his classroom expertise.
