Mikael Forsgren is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Linköping University's Department of Health, Medicine and Caring Sciences (HMV), within the Division of Diagnostics and Specialist Medicine (DISP). His primary role focuses on advancing knowledge in magnetic resonance physics and methodology, particularly in metabolic and chronic liver diseases. He holds a PhD in Medical Science (2017) and an MSc in Engineering Biotechnology (2011), both from Linköping University.
His research emphasizes MRI-based body composition analysis, linking it to disease progression, treatment efficacy, and risk stratification in conditions like steatotic liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver transplantation. He also explores muscle composition in fibromyalgia, COPD, and physical exercise. Forsgren collaborates with industry through CMIV, a university-linked company, and contributes to teaching in MRI physics and clinical hepatology courses.
Recent articles highlight his work on metabolic flexibility in transplant recipients, muscle composition in end-stage liver disease, and fibromyalgia biochemistry. His projects include the ACCESS-ESLD and EPSONIP studies, focusing on liver disease biomarkers and metabolic profiling. Forsgren’s expertise spans MRI innovation, clinical applications, and interdisciplinary collaborations with global institutions.
He has no listed scientific awards but maintains active roles in academic and industrial research. His work bridges clinical and technical advancements in MRI to improve diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for chronic diseases.
