Mika Gustafsson is a Professor in Bioinformatics at Linköping University's Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM). His research focuses on integrating machine learning and bioinformatics to analyze biological data for precision medicine applications, particularly in immunology and neurology. He leads projects on epigenetic signatures, disease module discovery, and AI-driven biomarker identification.
Key research interests include DNA methylation dynamics in diseases like tuberculosis and multiple sclerosis, T-cell immunology during pregnancy, and the development of computational tools such as scDrugPrio and MODalyseR for precision medicine. His work has led to grants from the Swedish Research Council (VR) and collaborations on digital twins for personalized healthcare.
Notable contributions include predicting disease severity in multiple sclerosis using machine learning and identifying biomarkers for tuberculosis via buccal swab analysis. He actively publishes in high-impact journals and contributes to translational bioinformatics through the Bioinformatics division at Linköping University.
