Miha Habič is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Bard College at Simon’s Rock, where he has taught since 2019. He will join Proof School as a faculty member in Fall 2025. Habič holds a PhD in Mathematics from the Graduate Center, CUNY (2017), under the supervision of Joel David Hamkins, and an MSc from the University of Ljubljana. His research focuses on mathematical logic, particularly set theory (including forcing, large cardinals, and set-theoretic coding) and computability theory, with interdisciplinary interests in mathematical philosophy.
Before Simon’s Rock, Habič held postdoctoral positions at Charles University and the Czech Technical University in Prague. His work explores foundational aspects of set theory, including the structure of forcing extensions, amalgamation properties of Cohen reals, and the interplay between computability and set-theoretic principles. He also contributes to mathematics education, co-authoring a paper on pedagogical strategies for proof comprehension.
Habič’s publications span technical advancements in set theory, such as nonamalgamable forcing extensions and set-theoretic blockchains, alongside explorations of foundational topics like the Cantor-Schröder-Bernstein theorem and large cardinal properties. His research often bridges abstract set-theoretic constructs with computability, offering novel frameworks for understanding independence results and model-theoretic behaviors.
Active in academic outreach, Habič maintains an accessible blog discussing recent research ideas and maintains an active presence on MathOverflow and MathStackExchange. His teaching philosophy emphasizes student engagement through innovative methods like the ‘Writing in the Zones’ approach to proof reading.
