معرفی
Thomas Johnstone is an Associate Professor of Mathematics in the School of Arts & Sciences at the New York City College of Technology, City University of New York (CUNY). He joined the mathematics department as a full-time faculty member in fall 2007 and has held visiting positions at the Kurt Gödel Research Center (University of Vienna, 2009/10) and the Isaac Newton Institute (Cambridge University, fall 2015).
Education
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, The Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY), 2007
Research Focus
Professor Johnstone specializes in set theory and mathematical logic, investigating foundational concepts of infinity through large cardinals, forcing techniques, and axiomatic systems. His work explores Ramsey cardinals, resurrection axioms, and the properties of ZFC without the power set axiom, contributing significantly to understanding structural indestructibility in set-theoretic universes.
Publication Trends
His research from 2006-2022 reveals consistent focus on large cardinal indestructibility and forcing axioms, with increasing collaboration on resurrection principles and class-theoretic foundations. Key patterns include evolving analysis of uplifting cardinals (2014-2017) and recent expansion into Ramsey-like cardinal properties (2022), often co-authored with leading set theorists like Joel David Hamkins.
