Miguel Navarro-Cía

Dr. Miguel Navarro-Cía is a Reader in Terahertz Science and Engineering jointly affiliated with the School of Physics and Astronomy and the School of Engineering (Department of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering) at the University of Birmingham. He leads the Metamaterials and Nanophotonics Group and holds professional memberships including SMIEEE, SMOSA, MInstP, MEOS, and FHEA.

His research focuses on applied electromagnetics, with specialization in metamaterials, metasurfaces, plasmonics, terahertz/infrared technologies, and antenna design. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers, two book chapters, and 300 conference contributions. His work emphasizes functional materials and devices for THz sensing and high-speed wireless communication applications.

Dr. Navarro-Cía has secured funding from EPSRC, H2020, DSTL, and the European Science Foundation. He actively promotes terahertz technology through international conferences, organizing committees, and educational outreach. He also contributes to standardization efforts via the Terahertz User Group of the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing.

Professional activities include peer review for journals like APS, AIP, IEEE, OSA, and Nature Publishing Group, as well as grant evaluations for ERC, EPSRC, and the British Council.
