Dr Miguel Gaggiotti is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Film and Television at the University of Bristol. His research focuses on nonprofessional performance in cinema, audio-visual ethnography, and the intersection of gender studies with filmic representation. He holds a PhD and has expertise in experimental methodologies blending collaborative filmmaking with sociological inquiry.
His work explores themes such as borderland identities, post-war Italian neorealism, and the ethical dimensions of nonprofessional acting across diverse cultural contexts. Key projects include the Transforming Voices series examining Mexican-US border narratives through collaborative film practices.
Publications span from analyses of Pasolini’s provocative use of nonprofessional actors to studies on Soviet cinematic avant-garde techniques. His recent work emphasizes reflexive ethnographic approaches to documenting marginalized communities and labor practices.
