University of the Balearic Islandsمعرفی
Dr. Miguel David Ferrer Reynés is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fundamental Biology and Health Sciences at the University of the Balearic Islands, specializing in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He serves as principal investigator of the Renal Lithiasis and Pathological Calcification (LiRCaP) research group and is a member of the Molecular Biology, Health Geography and One Health (MolONE) research group.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology (2004), University of the Balearic Islands
- Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry (2005), University of the Balearic Islands
- PhD (2009), University of the Balearic Islands
Dr. Ferrer Reynés specializes in research related to ectopic calcification and pathological calcifications. His work focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of these processes and their relationship with inflammatory responses and oxidative stress. His research has significant implications for understanding bone and joint pathophysiology, with potential applications in developing treatments for related diseases. His work bridges fundamental biochemical research with clinical applications in understanding and treating calcification-related disorders.
Scientific Contributions:
- Author of 50 publications in indexed international journals
- Co-inventor on seven patents
Dr. Ferrer Reynés has participated in more than 20 competitive regional and national research projects, serving as principal investigator in four of them. He has also led four collaborative projects with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. He supervises numerous final degree projects and master's theses across multiple programs including Biochemistry, Food and Human Nutrition, and Biomedical Research. His teaching portfolio spans undergraduate and graduate levels, covering subjects from basic Biology to specialized topics like Molecular Pathology and the Molecular Basis of Calcification Pathology.
He leads the Renal Lithiasis and Pathological Calcification (LiRCaP) research group, which focuses on experimental laboratory research in the field of pathological calcification. His work has established important connections between calcification processes, inflammatory responses, and oxidative stress mechanisms, contributing significantly to the understanding of diseases involving abnormal tissue calcification.
