Miguel David Ferrer Reynés

Dr. Miguel David Ferrer Reynés serves as a Full Professor in the Department of Fundamental Biology and Health Sciences at the University of the Balearic Islands, specializing in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He leads the Renal Lithiasis and Pathological Calcification (LiRCaP) research group and contributes to the Molecular Biology, Health Geography and One Health (MolONE) Group.

His academic credentials include a Biology degree (2004), Biochemistry degree (2005), and PhD (2009), all from the University of the Balearic Islands.

Research centers on ectopic calcification diseases, molecular pathways linking pathological calcifications to inflammation and oxidative stress, and bone/joint pathophysiology. This work bridges molecular biology, clinical pathology, and therapeutic development for renal and musculoskeletal disorders.

He has secured funding from over 20 competitive regional/national projects (including four as Principal Investigator) and four industry collaborations with biotech/pharmaceutical companies, yielding 50+ indexed publications and seven patents. His teaching spans undergraduate Biochemistry courses (Biology, Molecular Pathology) and Master's programs (Pathological Calcification, Digestive Physiology, Metabolic Interrelations).

Academic service includes membership on the Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee (CEEA), Biochemistry Degree Study Council, and Quality Assurance Committee, with teaching responsibilities extending through the 2025-26 academic year.
