Michiel Kasteel is an external employee and lecturer at the Laboratory of Phytopathology, Wageningen University & Research. His research focuses on the infection mechanisms of Phytophthora infestans, the pathogen responsible for potato blight.

Michiel's work explores how Phytophthora zoospores use klinokinetic behavior to locate hosts via chemoattractants. His studies highlight actin's role in hyphal tip sharpness for host penetration and molecular interactions during appressorium formation.
His recent publications include articles in PLoS Pathogens (2024), Seminars in Cell and Developmental Biology (2023), and Science Advances (2022). These works emphasize plant-pathogen dynamics, microbial motility, and cellular mechanobiology.
