Michelle Sovinsky is a Professor of Economics at the University of Mannheim. She is also a research fellow at the Center of Economic Policy Research (CEPR), an associate of the University of Chicago Becker Friedman Institute, and a member of the Economic Advisory Board for Competition Policy for the European Commission.
Her research integrates empirical industrial organization with health economics, focusing on game-theoretic modeling and empirical analysis. Key areas include individual decision-making under limited information, market power, competition policy, and illicit markets. Her work has significant implications for public health and competition policy design.
Her recent publications explore topics such as the digital divide, multi-substance use, eating disorders, data monetization, and antitrust challenges in the digital economy. These articles span interdisciplinary themes in economics, behavioral science, and public policy.
Scientific awards include the prestigious ERC Consolidators Grant (2017–2022) for the FORENSICS project, which examines illicit products and illegal behavior with implications for market regulation.
