معرفی
Professor Michelle Pinard is currently a Professor in Biological Sciences and Director of Education at the University of Aberdeen, School of Biological Sciences. Her career spans over two decades, including prior roles as Senior Lecturer in Tropical Forestry (2007-2015), Deputy Director of Teaching (2011-2013), and MSc Forestry Programme Coordinator (2001-2012).
Education:
- Ph.D. in Plant Ecology, University of Florida (1995)
- M.Sc. in Plant Ecology, University of Florida (1991)
- Secondary Education Teaching Certificate, Eastern Oregon State College (1985)
- B.Sc. in Wildlife & Fisheries Biology, University of Vermont (1982)
Her research sits at the intersection of ecology and forest use, focusing on regeneration in logged forests, carbon offsets, reduced-impact logging, and conservation conflicts. She works in tropical lowland/montane regions across Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Ghana, Brazil, and Bolivia. Recent projects include understanding deforestation’s impact on rural well-being (Amazonia) and pedagogical research on doctoral training and interdisciplinary learning.
Article trends reflect her dual focus on ecological conservation (logged forests, carbon retention, silviculture) and pedagogical innovation (iterative feedback, practical skills assessment). Key themes include human-nature interactions and policy implications for sustainable forest management.
External roles:
- Trustee, Scottish Forestry Trust
- Subject Editor, Conservation Letters and Biotropica
Teaching responsibilities include coordinating Society and Environment (BI3507) and Statistical Analysis of Biological Data (BI3010), while supervising over 140 postgraduate students (23 PhD, 50+ MSc, 50+ BSc Honours).
