Michelle Kistler

Michelle Kistler is an Assistant Professor at the Murrow College, Washington State University (WSU), specializing in Communication. Since 2018, she has taught a wide range of courses including Foundations of Persuasion, Media and Society, Risk Communication, Quantitative Research Methods, and Youth and Media, both in-person and online.

Her research focuses on the intersection of media influence, digital media, and family systems in shaping adolescent and emerging adult development. She has contributed to journals like Journal of Research on Adolescents, Mass Communication & Society, and JAMA Pediatrics, emphasizing media literacy and health communication.

Kistler previously served as a research project manager for a USDA-funded multi-site initiative on media literacy and nutrition curriculum development led by Dr. Erica Austin. She also has experience as a coach and recruiter for NCAA Division-I rowing, and was a competitive rower herself.

Her teaching career includes courses such as Consumer Insights and Branding, Communication Theory, and Public Speaking in the Digital Age, reflecting her expertise in strategic communication and media systems.
