Professor Michelle Keown is a faculty member at the University of Edinburgh, holding the position of Professor of Pacific and Postcolonial Literature within the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures and the English Literature department. Her academic career spans institutions such as the University of Stirling and the University of Kent, and she actively contributes to editorial boards for journals including the Journal of Postcolonial Writing and Ka Mate Ka Ora.
- Education: BA and MA in English from the University of Waikato, PhD in Postcolonial Studies from the University of Kent.
Her research focuses on Postcolonial literature, particularly addressing the Pacific region, Indigenous futurism, and intersections of colonialism with medical/environmental humanities. She has authored and co-edited influential works on Maori and Pacific writing, Anglo-American imperialism, and nuclear colonialism.
Professor Keown welcomes research proposals in postcolonial theory, Pacific diasporas, settler writing, and environmental humanities. She is involved in projects exploring postcolonial translation studies, nuclear toxicity, and Indigenous futurist narratives.
Additional roles include membership in the AHRC Peer Review College and contributions to journals such as Dreadlocks and the Journal of New Zealand Literature.
