Mixhelle Joseph, MBBS, MSc, PhD, FRCS, is a Visiting Professor in Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a specialist in trauma and orthopedic surgery. She holds appointments as a Visiting Fellow in the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change and as Chief Strategy and Health Equity Officer for PGSSC (Program in Global Surgery and Social Change). Her work focuses on military-civilian trauma system integration, health equity, and disaster response, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). She established the Trauma and Injury Working Group and founded the Equity Research Hub, dedicated to improving global health conference equity and strengthening research capacity in LMICs. Dr. Joseph graduated from University College London and completed her orthopedic training on the Warwick Orthopedic Programme, where she was also a National Institute for Health Research Clinical Lecturer.
Her research spans surgical equity, anti-racism curricula in global surgery, and geospatial analysis of injury patterns in regions like Haiti. Dr. Joseph has led initiatives on quality improvement in healthcare and patient safety governance. Notable awards include Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (England) and recognition for her NIH-funded clinical lectureship. Her work bridges clinical practice, public health, and social medicine, addressing systemic inequities in global health systems.
