Michelle Jenkins is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Whitman College specializing in ancient philosophy with a focus on Plato. Her research examines moral development, philosophical ideals, and educational theory in Platonic dialogues, particularly the Republic.
She investigates questions of moral progress, responsibility, and the nature of the 'philosopher' archetype across Plato's works. Current projects analyze eros in moral culpability and mathematical-dialectical relationships in the Republic.
Her teaching spans ancient philosophy, bioethics, and philosophy in literature. Administrative roles include chairing faculty searches and serving on academic freedom committees. Her scholarship addresses both historical interpretations and contemporary ethical applications of Platonic thought.
