Dr. Michelle Hall is an Associate Professor in the Sydney Musculoskeletal Health Department at the University of Sydney's Sydney School of Health Sciences. She holds membership in the Charles Perkins Centre and has affiliations with the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Her research focuses on hip and knee osteoarthritis, emphasizing exercise interventions and biomechanical mechanisms. Dr. Hall completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne (2015) and participated in Harvard Medical School's Global Clinical Scholars program (2016).
- Education:
- PhD, University of Melbourne (2015)
- Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program, Harvard Medical School (2016)
Her research interests include musculoskeletal biomechanics, pain modulation, and translational exercise therapies. She has secured over AUD $5 million in research funding from NHMRC and industry grants, including Emerging Leader Grants. Dr. Hall's work has led to clinical guideline contributions and >90 publications. Key projects include the ECHO and PHOENIX trials exploring exercise and weight management for hip osteoarthritis.
Recent studies highlight her focus on diagnostic label impacts on patient beliefs, mechanisms of non-surgical interventions, and biomechanical loading patterns in hip conditions.
- Grants:
- Investigator Grant (NHMRC)
- US DoD Research Grant (2024)
- Awards:
- Victorian Young Tall Poppy Award (2019)
Dr. Hall advocates for STEM inclusion, particularly for women in biomechanics. Her lab focuses on musculoskeletal loading, neuromechanics, and clinical trial design.
