Associate Professor Joanne Kemp is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow at La Trobe University’s Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre, where she serves as Academic Director of the Clinical Trials Platform. With over 30 years of experience as a Sport & Exercise Physiotherapist and 150+ publications, her work focuses on reducing the burden of hip pain and osteoarthritis through evidence-based rehabilitation and implementation science.
Her research explores:
- Biomechanical impairments in athletes with hip/groin pain
- Development of patient-centered assessment tools (e.g., SIMPLI-FAI scale)
- Effectiveness of anti-inflammatory diets in chronic disease
- Optimizing pre-/post-surgical interventions for hip preservation
Recent publications emphasize qualitative patient experiences, clinical guideline implementation, and sex-specific differences in musculoskeletal disorders. She has secured over $13M in grants, including funding for the MOTION cohort study monitoring knee osteoarthritis trajectories.
