Dr. Michelle Cowley-Cunningham is an Assistant Professor (part-time) affiliated with DCU Business School, where her research and teaching span family business sustainability, climate anxiety, and child rights. She holds a postdoctoral appointment (2022-24) at the National Centre for Family Business (NCFB), examining sustainable business values' impact on children's health and succession planning. Her academic roles include editorial board membership at the International Journal of Market Research and committee positions with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI), including co-chair of the Human Rights & Psychology Special Interest Group.
Her research focuses on intersections of family business resilience, environmental policy, and mental health. Notable projects include the Family Business Succession Project (first all-island study of Irish succession practices) and submissions to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child regarding climate anxiety's mental health implications. Her work has been featured in major media outlets like The Guardian and RTE, and contributed to the Small Business Charter Excellence Award 2024 for stakeholder engagement.
Michelle’s expertise bridges psychology and human rights, with recent publications addressing climate justice, children’s participation rights, and entrepreneurial behavior. She collaborates internationally through initiatives like the GUESSS global student entrepreneurship consortium and the Kyrie Farm Model, advancing practical mental health frameworks for vulnerable populations.
