معرفی
Dr. Michelle Collins is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean Doctoral College at the University of Surrey's School of Mathematics and Physics. Her research focuses on observational astronomy, particularly the dynamics and evolution of Local Group galaxies, with an emphasis on dark matter modeling and resolved stellar spectroscopy. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has held fellowships at the Max-Planck Institute and Yale University. Her work combines observational data from Hubble, Euclid, and ground-based telescopes to study dwarf galaxies, stellar streams, and galaxy formation processes.
- Education: PhD in Astronomy (University of Cambridge, 2011)
- Postdoctoral Roles: Galaxies and Cosmology Fellow (Max-Planck Institute), Hubble Fellow (Yale University)
Research interests include probing dark matter through ultra-faint dwarf galaxies, analyzing stellar populations in Andromeda's satellites, and understanding galaxy quenching mechanisms. She has led projects like the HERON survey and contributed to the PAndAS survey of Andromeda's halo. Recent work includes studying tidal streams (e.g., North West Stream) and discovering new dwarf satellites (e.g., Pisces VII/Triangulum III).
