Michelle Benedict Nowlin is a Clinical Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Environmental Law and Policy Clinic at Duke Law School. She supervises students from both Duke Law and the Nicholas School of the Environment, focusing on environmental law, public health, and sustainability initiatives.
- Education: B.A. (Highest Honors) from the University of Florida; dual J.D./M.A. from Duke Law School and Duke’s School of the Environment (1992).
Research interests include environmental law, climate change policy, marine conservation, agricultural law, and pollution control. She has worked on legal frameworks for marine species protection, sustainable food systems, and pollution reduction strategies.
Scientific awards include the University’s Faculty Award for Outstanding Leadership in Sustainability (2013), Neighborhood Hero recognition (2007), Honorary Warden by the North Carolina Audubon Society (2006), and the Bill Holman Award for Environmental Advocacy (1997).
