Jack Wade Nowlin serves as Dean and W. Frank Newton Professor of Law at Texas Tech University School of Law, where he joined in 2017. A native of West Texas and Texas Tech University System alumnus, Nowlin brings over twenty years of law teaching experience to his leadership role, committed to putting students first and teaching practical lawyering skills in a supportive environment.
Nowlin's educational background includes a B.A. from Angelo State University (1991), J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law (1994), and both M.A. (1997) and Ph.D. (1999) from Princeton University.
His research focuses on judicial power, interpretive theory, and constitutional structure, with scholarly work appearing in prestigious publications including the Notre Dame Law Review, Illinois Law Review, and Princeton University Press. With over thirty articles, book chapters, and book reviews to his name, Nowlin has established himself as a significant contributor to constitutional legal scholarship.
Nowlin has received notable recognition for his work:

- Recipient of the Ben A. Hardy Faculty Excellence Award for outstanding teaching, research, and service
In addition to his scholarly work, Nowlin has been deeply involved in student mentorship, with his advisees publishing numerous articles in journals such as the Gonzaga Law Review, South Dakota Law Review, and UVA's Journal of Law and Politics. His administrative experience spans strategic planning, faculty development, and communications, and he served as Senior Associate Dean at the University of Mississippi before joining Texas Tech. Nowlin has also taught Fourth Amendment law to judges as a faculty member of the National Judicial College for over a decade.
