John Nowlin

Dr. John Nowlin serves as an Associate Professor of Geospatial Technologies and Interim Associate Dean at the College of Agriculture, Arkansas State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Geography (2017) and a Post-Baccalaureate GIS Certificate from UNC Greensboro, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Geography in 2010.

His research focuses on geospatial modeling for agricultural applications, including physical site suitability, micro-topographic analysis, and groundwater sustainability. He has developed methods for niche agricultural site selection and terroir analysis, particularly in viticulture. Current projects emphasize conjunctive water management and irrigation reservoir history reconstruction in Arkansas critical groundwater zones.

Dr. Nowlin's publications span groundwater optimization techniques, precision agriculture tools, and cotton crop management. He has secured funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and remote sensing contractors for his research initiatives.

At Arkansas State University, he leads geospatial education in environmental and sustainability contexts, building on prior teaching experience at UNC Greensboro and a 19-year career in the Industrial Woods Industry. His professional background includes U.S. Navy service with global maritime operations.
