John Jackson Ewing is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Division of Environmental Sciences and Policy at Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment. He serves as director of energy and climate policy at the Nicholas Institute of Energy, Environment & Sustainability and is affiliated with the Duke Center for International Development at the Sanford School of Public Policy. His work bridges Duke's global platforms, including collaborations with Duke Kunshan University's Environmental Research Center and International Masters of Environmental Policy programs.
Education: Ph.D. in Environmental Security (Bond University, Australia, 2010); M.A. in International Relations (Bond University, 2006); B.A. in Political Science (College of Charleston, 2003).
Research focuses on climate policy, sustainable resource development in Asia, and transnational environmental governance. He previously led carbon market initiatives at the Asia Society Policy Institute and directed the Environment, Climate Change, and Food Security Program at Singapore’s S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies. His expertise spans government, private sector, and civil society engagement in Asia.
Award: Recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship. Active in media, contributing to radio, TV, and print outlets on global environmental issues.
