Michell Dittgen is a Lecturer and Research Associate in Didactics of Social Sciences at the University of Trier, where he has worked since 2019. He holds qualifications in social studies, French, educational sciences, and German as a foreign language. His research focuses on interdisciplinary social science education, democratic pedagogy, digital literacy, and school development, employing both qualitative and quantitative methods.
Dittgen leads several major projects:
- Edu.GR (BMBF-funded): Transnational European education in border regions
- ADiLA (BMFSFJ-funded): Democratic teacher training
- PauKer (state-funded): Digital simulation games for cross-curricular competencies
- di:GL (OER): Self-learning modules for integrated social sciences
His publications (2018-2025) predominantly analyze democratic education frameworks, extremism prevention strategies, and curriculum innovation in social studies. Recent work emphasizes digital pedagogy and socio-political inequality. Dittgen co-edits the mateneen journal series and coordinates the Research Center for Social Science Integration Subjects (TriGewi).
While currently not accepting new students due to project commitments, he previously supervised theses on media literacy, AI in education, and democratic school development. Dittgen holds leadership roles in the German Society for Democratic Education (DeGeDe) and Democracy Day Rhineland-Palatinate.
