Professor Michele Solimena is a leading researcher at the DZD-Paul-Langerhans-Institute Dresden (PLID), which operates at the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital of the Technische Universität Dresden. His work focuses on advancing our understanding of pancreatic beta cell biology and diabetes pathophysiology through multiple research initiatives.
His research interests span several critical areas including diabetes research, pancreatic beta cell function, insulin secretion mechanisms, metabolic diseases, cell biology, regenerative medicine, and endocrinology. Professor Solimena employs advanced molecular, biophysical, and genomic approaches to investigate fundamental processes in islet cell biology.
His publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on next-generation sequencing of islet cells, molecular mechanisms of insulin secretion, stress responses in beta cells, and regenerative approaches for diabetes treatment. His work bridges basic science with translational applications, particularly in the areas of islet cell transplantation and novel therapeutic strategies for metabolic diseases.
Professor Solimena has received significant research funding through the German Research Foundation (DFG), including ongoing projects on next-generation sequencing of human islet cells and participation in International Research Training Groups focused on metabolic diseases. His previous work includes leadership in the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden and contributions to graduate education in biomedicine.
His research program represents a significant contribution to diabetes science, with implications for understanding disease mechanisms and developing novel therapeutic approaches for metabolic disorders.
