Michela Summa is a Professor of Theoretical Philosophy (Chair I) at the Institute of Philosophy, Faculty of Human Sciences, University of Würzburg. She holds office hours during lecture-free periods and is contactable via michela.summa@uni-wuerzburg.de.
- PhD in Philosophy (2010) from Pavia and Leuven with dissertation on 'Space-Temporality in Husserl’s Transcendental Aesthetics'
- Prior appointments: Junior Professor (2018-2024), Visiting Professor at University of Kassel (2018), Research Assistant at University of Würzburg (2015-2018) and Heidelberg Clinic (2009-2015)
Her research focuses on Phenomenology of perception, imagination, and social experience, with interdisciplinary connections to cognitive science and psychopathology. Key areas include:
- Phenomenology of sensory experience
- Phenomenological aesthetics
- Intersubjectivity and sociality
- Relationship between medieval and phenomenological intentionality
Michela Summa’s publications explore double intentionality, fictional emotionality, and temporal dynamics of cognition. She co-edits journals like Human Studies and Deutsche Zeitschrift für Philosophie.
Scientific recognition includes the 2016 Edwin Ballard Prize in Phenomenology for her monograph on Husserl’s Transcendental Aesthetic, which was also reviewed in Husserl Studies and Journal für Philosophie.
