Michela Di Criscio is a Researcher at Uppsala University's Department of Organismal Biology (Physiology and Environmental Toxicology), affiliated with the EpiTox research group led by Prof. Joëlle Rüegg. She is currently a PhD candidate investigating the epigenetic impacts of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) on neurodevelopment and multigenerational effects. Her work employs genome-wide DNA/RNA methylation analyses and animal/cell models, with a focus on zebrafish and embryonic stem cells.
Research Interests: Di Criscio's studies explore how EDCs alter brain development and behavior through epigenetic mechanisms. Her key themes include transgenerational inheritance, neurodevelopmental disorders linked to environmental toxins, and the molecular pathways underlying EDC-induced changes. She also examines the effects of chemical mixtures on behavior and epigenetic markers in mammals.
Publications: Her recent work highlights EDC-induced DNA methylation changes in mice linked to hyperactivity, challenges in transgenerational epigenetic research, and bisphenol A's disruption of blood-brain barrier transporters. Collaborative projects include veterinary studies on snake diseases and alcohol dependence epigenetics.
Labs/Teams: Part of the EpiTox group, she contributes to interdisciplinary toxicology and epigenetics research at Uppsala's Evolutionary Biology Centre (EBC).
