Michela Deleidi leads a research team focused on understanding the mechanistic links between genetic factors and neurological disorders, particularly investigating how rare monogenic diseases (e.g., mitochondrial/lysosomal storage diseases) relate to complex age-associated disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The team also explores connections between inflammatory bowel diseases, infections, and neurodegeneration, employing induced pluripotent stem cells, organoid cultures, and single-cell analysis.
- Research Priorities: Genetic mechanisms in neurodegeneration, cross-disease connections, and translational therapies.
- Methodologies: Stem cell models, organoid systems, and single-cell technologies.
Current advisees include doctoral candidates Federico Bertoli, Fokion Spanos, Hariam Raji, and France Renard. The team’s work aims to bridge fundamental research with clinical applications for genetic brain diseases.
