Empa - Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technologyمعرفی
Michel Calame is Titular Professor of Nanoscience at the University of Basel and Head of the Laboratory for Transport at Nanoscale Interfaces at Empa, Switzerland. His career spans over two decades in nanoscale physics research with strong institutional ties to the Swiss Nanoscience Institute.
His research focuses on nanoscale transport phenomena, condensed matter systems, and superconductivity. Key areas include vortex dynamics in superconducting thin films, nanoscale interface physics, and quantum transport mechanisms. His experimental work bridges fundamental physics with nanotechnology applications.
Prof. Calame holds significant leadership roles including President of the Swiss Physical Society (2025) and membership in the Scientific Advisory Committee of the European Physical Journal. He previously served as Coordinator of the Swiss Nanoscience Institute PhD program (2013-2016) and as Scientific Board member for EU CoFUND MSCA Programme.
His educational background includes a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Neuchâtel (1998) with research on vortex phases in YBa2Cu3O7 superconductors, preceded by a Physics Diploma from the same institution (1993).
Professional milestones: Postdoctoral research at Rockefeller University (1999-2000); Scientific Collaborator at University of Basel (2001-2011); Privat-Docent and Group Leader (2011-2016); Laboratory Head at Empa (2016-present).
