Michał Choptiany is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Artes Liberales, University of Warsaw. He earned a Doctor of Humanities in Polish Philology (Jagiellonian University, 2013) and was a National Science Centre-funded postdoctoral fellow (2013–2016) for his project on calendar reform debates in East-Central European intellectual culture (1400–1700). He specializes in early modern history, focusing on intersections between science and religion, print culture, and knowledge transmission.
- Education: PhD (2013), MA (2008) - Jagiellonian University
His research integrates history of science, philosophy, and literary analysis. Key projects examine manuscript traditions of Georg Joachim Rheticus's election prophecies, astrological patronage networks (e.g., Jan Latosz and Duke Radziwiłł), and reception of Flavius Josephus in Poland-Lithuania. He has co-edited special volumes on knowledge spaces and Renaissance rhetoric.
Notable trends in his 20+ publications include: textual criticism of 16th-century astrological works; marginalia analysis in early modern scientific texts; and translation studies (e.g., Polish translations of Pallasmaa and Ramus). His 2017 edited volume with Piotr Wilczek explores Polish Antitrinitarianism in European context. Grants include DEC-2013/08/S/HS3/00192 for calendar reform research.
