Renata Grzela

Renata Grzela is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biophysics at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw. Her research focuses on RNA degradation mechanisms, innate immune responses triggered by RNA, and the application of modified RNA molecules in therapeutic contexts. She has held academic positions since 2007, including postdoctoral fellowships in France and roles at the Center for New Technologies and the Institute for Integrative Biology of the Cell. Her work integrates biophysical, biochemical, and molecular approaches to study RNA-protein interactions and translational regulation.

Education: MSc in Biological Sciences (2001), PhD in Biological Sciences (2007) from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences. Professional experience includes research at the Institut de Biologie Structurale (Grenoble) and the Mediterranean Institute of Microbiology (Marseille).

Research interests emphasize understanding how RNA modifications influence immune recognition and translational efficiency, with applications in mRNA-based therapeutics. Collaborations with institutions like the University of Maryland and University of Dundee highlight interdisciplinary strengths in molecular biology and computational modeling.

Her recent articles (2024–2022) address cap structure modifications, miRNA regulation of protein synthesis, and engineered mRNA applications in stem cell engineering. Research also explores antibacterial agents targeting ribosomes and enzyme mechanisms involved in RNA degradation pathways.

Advising includes offering thesis projects for bachelor’s and master’s students in biophysics and molecular biology. Active in lab collaborations within the Division of Biophysics and affiliated with the Institute of Experimental Physics.
