Professor Michael Wayne is an academic at Brunel University London, affiliated with the Department of Film & Television within the College of Business, Arts and Social Sciences. He has spent most of his career at Brunel, serving as Convenor of the MA in Media and Public Relations and previously leading the MA in Documentary Practice for 11 years.
His research bridges Marxist theory and media studies, focusing on class dynamics in film, Third Cinema, and the intersection of aesthetics and ideology. He has produced three feature documentaries, including The Acting Class (2017), which won Best National Feature Documentary at the Labour Film Festival. His academic work critiques neoliberalism, media monopolies, and cultural representations of class.
