Michael W. Ibrahim

Dr. Michael W. Ibrahim is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at California State University, Los Angeles within the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology. He serves as founder and director of the Construction and Engineering Management specialization and Minor program, driving innovation in construction education and research.

Education

• PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of Wisconsin–Madison with emphasis in Construction Engineering and Management, doctoral minors in Statistics and Business
• MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of Wisconsin–Madison
• BS in Construction Engineering from American University in Cairo, graduating summa cum laude with double concentration in Construction Materials/Structures and Construction Management/Technology

Dr. Ibrahim's research centers on three interconnected pillars: (1) Enhancing construction project performance through lean methodologies, business strategies, and digital technologies including VR, AR, and AI; (2) Developing renewable energy infrastructure systems; and (3) Transforming engineering education by shifting from "college-ready" to "student-ready" institutional frameworks. His work integrates engineering, statistics, and business principles to optimize productivity, sustainability, and profitability in the built environment.

With over $10 million in research funding from NSF and U.S. Department of Transportation, he has analyzed data from 500+ construction professionals, 250+ projects (valued at $46+ billion), and 75+ companies, producing industry-applicable multi-disciplinary research with significant real-world impact.
