Professor Michael Volgger is a faculty member at Curtin University, holding the position of Professor in the School of Management and Marketing under the Faculty of Business and Law. He also serves as Discipline Lead for Tourism, Hospitality and Events. Volgger earned his Doctoral degree and habilitation from the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, alongside a Magister from the University of Vienna and a BSc from the Economic University of Vienna.

His research focuses on transformation and innovation in tourism destination management, tourism product development, regional development, and consumer behavior, with particular emphasis on responsible consumer behavior, tourism atmospheres, and tourism supply-side governance. He has led 22 research projects and participated in 23 others, securing funding from governments, industry bodies, and universities.
The 15 most recent articles highlight his expertise in sustainable tourism, destination governance, Indigenous tourism, and the sharing economy. These works span both qualitative and experimental research, often addressing environmental sustainability, cultural preservation, and policy implications in Alpine regions, Australia, and Asia-Pacific.
