Dr. Michael Sullivan is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow's School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health. He is affiliated with the BHF Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre and works as a Specialist Registrar at the Glasgow Renal and Transplant Unit, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. His clinical training includes an MBChB from the University of Aberdeen (2011), MRCGP (2015), and an MSc in Internal Medicine (2016). He completed his Specialist Certificate in Renal Medicine in 2019.
Research Interests: Dr. Sullivan focuses on chronic kidney disease (CKD), multimorbidity, and cardiovascular outcomes. His work includes studying kidney failure risk equations, health inequalities, and the impact of multimorbidity clusters on adverse outcomes. He uses large cohort studies (e.g., UK Biobank) to investigate CKD comorbidities and clinical management strategies.
Publications Trends: His recent work spans CKD risk stratification, sex-based disparities in kidney function outcomes, and the role of biomarkers (e.g., cystatin C) in CKD progression. He also examines the impact of cancer treatments (e.g., VEGF inhibitors) on kidney health and the integration of NICE guidelines into primary care referrals.
Grants & Supervision: He leads an MRC-funded project (2020–2022) on multimorbidity in CKD and supervises students like Heather Walker. His research emphasizes translating evidence into clinical practice, particularly in primary care settings.
Labs/Teams: He contributes to the Glasgow Renal and Transplant Unit and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams at the BHF Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre.
