Michael Shenkman

Michael Shenkman is a Lecturer at the Urban Studies & Planning department of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), with a focus on real estate, land use planning, and community development. He holds advanced degrees in Public Administration and Planning from the University of Southern California (USC).

• B.A. in Sociology and Urban Studies & Planning from UCSD (2013)
• Master of Public Administration (MPA) from USC (2017)
• Master of Planning (MPL) with a concentration in Economic Development from USC (2017)

His research and professional work center on urban planning, affordable housing, and real estate policy, informed by his extensive experience in real estate brokerage, property management, and redevelopment.

Shenkman actively contributes to professional practice through roles such as Vice Chair of Government Affairs at the San Diego Association of Realtors (SDAR), where he instructs agents and advises on legislative policy, including recent work on statewide COVID-related real estate policies.
