Michael Sehorn is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics and Biochemistry at Clemson University. He is affiliated with the College of Science and is a member of the Center for Optical Materials Science and Engineering Technologies (COMSET) and the Eukaryotic Pathogens Innovation Center (EPIC). His research focuses on DNA repair mechanisms, particularly homologous recombination mediated by RAD51 and DMC1 recombinases in organisms like Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Entamoeba histolytica, and humans. He teaches courses including DNA Repair, Molecular Biology, and clinical shadowing programs for pre-med students.
Education: PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (2002), B.S. in Biology from New Mexico Tech (1995).
Research Interests: Investigating DNA double-strand break repair pathways, recombinase activities in protozoan parasites, and the role of proteins like BCCIP and Hed1 in homologous recombination. His work also explores nanoparticle-based strategies for cancer therapy and enzyme recognition.
Labs: Life Sciences Building 57A (Office), 60F and 72 (Labs). He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams at EPIC and COMSET to advance biomedical research on eukaryotic pathogens and optical materials science.
