معرفی
Dr. Michael Schuliga is a Research Fellow at the University of Newcastle's School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy, based at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI). His research focuses on lung fibrosis, particularly idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), investigating aging mechanisms like cellular senescence and mitochondrial dysfunction. He holds an Honours degree from the University of Melbourne and a PhD from Deakin University. His work combines molecular biology, proteomics, and cell culture techniques, collaborating with clinicians and researchers globally.
Dr. Schuliga has secured over $2.49 million in grants, including funding from Boehringer Ingelheim and HMRI. He has published 60+ peer-reviewed papers (h-index 34), with key contributions in journals like American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology and Clinical Science. His research on senescence-driven fibrosis and drug targets like cGAS and CK1 inhibitors has earned awards, including the Lung Foundation Australia's Lizotte Family IPF Research Award (2018).
His current projects include modeling lung fibrosis with patient-derived cells and exploring telomerase-activating therapeutics. He is an editorial board member of American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, and actively presents at conferences such as the European Respiratory Society and the American Thoracic Society.
