Michael Roberts

Michael Roberts is an EdD candidate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Vermont, and an adjunct professor in the SIT MA in International Education program. He holds an MA in International Education from SIT Graduate Institute, a BA in Ethnomusicology from Bates College, and a certificate in folk music performance from the Music and Dance Conservatory of Mongolia. His research focuses on decolonial approaches to nature-based education using qualitative sound methodologies.

Research interests include integrating sound studies with environmental education, decolonizing pedagogical frameworks, and intercultural communication. His recent fieldwork at Makerere University explored human-environmental interfaces in Entebbe, Uganda. He has taught courses on program design and intercultural leadership, blending his academic and musical expertise.

As a musician, Roberts performs folk music internationally, including at the Newport Folk Festival and Carnegie Hall, with works featured on NPR. His career spans roles in international education program leadership, university administration, and communications.
