Dr. Michael Rapport is a Reader in Modern European History at the University of Glasgow School of Humanities, specializing in the French Revolution, Napoleonic Wars, and domino revolutions across 1848, 1989, and 2011. He leads the Early Modern History research group and contributes to academic administration as Senior Adviser of Studies.
His research projects include: (1) Paris during the Revolution (supported by Carnegie Trust grants for Paris/New York research); (2) French Revolutionary Wars as global conflict (Carnegie Trust-funded); (3) Domino revolutions (with Dr. Kevin Adamson, University of Stirling). He is completing a book on Europe from 1815–1848 and editing the Oxford Handbook to Europe in the Long 19th Century.
Scientific achievements include a Fellowship at the Royal Historical Society (since 2000) and multiple Carnegie Trust research grants. His public engagement spans BBC radio appearances on 1848 revolutions, the Arab Spring, and academic lectures on historical memory.
