Dr. Gavin Daly is a Senior Lecturer in European History at the University of Tasmania's School of Humanities, specializing in late 18th-early 19th century British and French history, particularly the Napoleonic era. He holds a PhD from the University of New South Wales (1998) and a BA (Hons) from the same institution (1991). His research focuses on military history, siege warfare, and the laws of war during the Napoleonic period, with notable works analyzing British and French military practices and societal impacts. He has supervised over a dozen MA/PhD students on topics ranging from the Peninsular War to colonial governance in Mauritius.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on early modern Europe, war and society, and revolutions/dictatorships. His funded projects include a UTAS grant exploring British soldiers' experiences in 1st World War France (2005).
