Michael R. Gibson is a Professor and Coordinator of the M.A. in Interaction Design Program at the University of North Texas (UNT), housed in the College of Visual Arts and Design (CVAD) and Department of Design. He oversees curriculum development and student supervision for M.A. and M.F.A. candidates, focusing on interaction design, user experience, and design research. His work emphasizes collaborative, human-centered design to address societal challenges in education and healthcare.
Education: B.F.A. in Graphic Design from the Kansas City Art Institute and M.F.A. in Graphic Design with a Design Research specialization from the University of Michigan.
Research focuses on integrating emerging technologies in design education, co-participatory design processes, and healthcare information systems. He co-edits the scholarly journal Dialectic for the AIGA Design Educators’ Community and has published in journals like Visible Language and Information Design Journal.
Recent projects include designing digital systems for diabetes education in rural North Texas and mental health resources for children, in collaboration with healthcare institutions and communities. He leads sponsored projects with faculty like Keith Owens and Cassini Nazir, addressing real-world challenges through design research.
