Michael Pittari serves as Professor of Art at Lebanon Valley College, teaching studio courses including Painting Studio (ART 210), Color & Culture (ART 380), and Directed Studio (ART 440) from his office in Clyde A. Lynch 159.
His educational foundation includes a B.F.A. from the University of Florida and an M.F.A. from the University of Tennessee.
Pittari's artistic research centers on large-scale abstract interpretations of natural forms through watercolor and ink, while simultaneously exploring mixed-media and digital imaging techniques. His scholarly focus extends to color history and cultural contexts, evidenced by his curation of exhibitions and written contributions to art discourse. This interdisciplinary approach bridges studio practice with academic inquiry into visual language and perception.
His recent creative output demonstrates a sustained investigation into abstraction's relationship with organic forms, coupled with rigorous examination of color theory across historical and contemporary frameworks. This synthesis manifests in both visual works and scholarly publications addressing art's cultural dimensions.
Pittari's recognition includes:
- Thomas Rhys Vickroy Distinguished Teaching Award (2021)
- Arnold Grant for Experiential Learning for 'Journal of Color & Culture' (2015)
- Arnold Grant for Experiential Learning for 'Transformation: A Journey Into Abstraction' (2012)
Through his experiential learning grants and studio courses, Pittari integrates artistic mentorship with academic exploration, guiding students in portfolio development, color theory applications, and creative publishing. His Arnold Grants specifically supported projects connecting classroom learning with professional art practice.
His active exhibition history and ongoing studio work indicate continuous engagement with regional art communities through galleries like the Susquehanna Art Museum and Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts.
