Michael Paul Cary is Associate Professor and Elizabeth C. Clipp Term Chair of Nursing at Duke University School of Nursing. His research employs AI and machine learning to address health disparities in aging populations and improve healthcare delivery systems.
Education:
PhD in Nursing/Health Services Research, MSN from University of Virginia (2006).
Research Focus:
Develops predictive models for: 1) Post-acute care outcomes; 2) Health equity interventions; 3) Algorithmic bias mitigation; 4) Gerontological care quality. Leads projects on nursing-led care models addressing social determinants of health.

- Co-I on PCORI-funded models of post-acute care ($2M+)
- NIH-funded Nurse LEADS training program
- Seed grants for AI bias detection in healthcare
