Dr. Michael Paidas is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine. He has held numerous leadership positions in professional organizations including the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine (2009-Present), International Stillbirth Alliance (2007-Present), and has served on committees for the Centers for Disease Control (2003-Present), National Institutes of Health (2008-Present), and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (2005-Present).
Dr. Paidas received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1987, completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital in 1991, and finished his Fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 1993. In 2013, he was awarded an Honorary Master of Arts degree from Yale University.
His research focuses on blood disorders in pregnancy, reproductive health, and pregnancy complications. Dr. Paidas has made notable contributions including describing the regulatory factors of the Protein C system, clinical use of recombinant antithrombin in disease states, and elucidating cardiovascular health consequences of hypertensive disorders. He and his collaborators have described the genomic and proteomic effects of Preimplantation Factor (PIF), a novel mammalian embryo derived factor with immune modulatory properties. His research has been supported by federal and non-federal funding agencies.
Dr. Paidas is the lead Principal Investigator of the multicenter PRESERVE-1 clinical trial evaluating recombinant antithrombin for preterm preeclampsia. His academic profile includes over 500 published manuscripts, abstracts, books, chapters, presentations, and courses. His recent publications span environmental epidemiology, reproductive immunology, maternal-fetal medicine, and health disparities research.

Dr. Paidas has expertise in prenatal ultrasound and invasive fetal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. His current research projects include investigating Multigate Doppler with Global Acquisition and Signal Processing (G.A.S.P.) for women's health applications, studying antithrombin levels preceding placenta-mediated complications, and examining Preimplantation Factor as a biomarker for viable embryo selection. He has also been investigating the potential of synthetic Preimplantation Factor (sPIF) to treat perinatal brain injury and other immune-related conditions.
