Michael Orrison is the Kenneth A. and Diana G. Jonsson Professor and Chair of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College. He received his A.B. from Wabash College in 1995 and his Ph.D. from Dartmouth College in 2001.
His teaching portfolio spans linear algebra, abstract algebra, discrete mathematics, and representation theory, forming foundational coursework for mathematics students. His research focuses on voting theory and harmonic analysis on finite groups, exploring mathematical structures and decision-making processes.
Orrison serves as one of the North American co-directors for the Aquincum Institute of Technology (AIT) study abroad program in Budapest, Hungary, which caters to computer science, software engineering, and data science majors with an integrated approach combining theoretical foundations, practical applications, entrepreneurship, and design thinking.
His leadership role as department chair demonstrates significant administrative responsibility within one of the nation's premier undergraduate mathematics programs.
